It started with one badly made collar

In 2019 our cocker spaniel Ferda snapped his third collar in a year. Nothing on the shelf was built to last, so we cut leather on the kitchen table until something was.

The first twenty collars went to friends at the dog park. The next hundred went to people we had never met, and by the end of that winter the kitchen table had been replaced by a bench.

Seven years later the table is a workshop of five people. We still buy vegetable-tanned hide from the same tannery in Otrokovice, still cast our own brass, and still test every prototype on our own dogs before it reaches yours.

The toile pattern on our packaging was drawn for Ferda's portrait. He is on the label of everything we make.

The bench

How a collar is made

01 — Cutting

Straps are cut from the firm part of the hide, along the spine, where the fibre is densest.

02 — Stitching

Two needles, one thread, pulled tight by hand. A saddle stitch does not unravel when a stitch breaks.

03 — Finishing

Edges are sanded, burnished with beeswax, then the brass is set and the piece is walked for a week.

One letter a month: new pieces, restocks, and the occasional dog photo.
